Bible reflects the Trinity, and evidence for it

God's triune nature: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Postby X_CHRIS_X » Mon Oct 19, 2009 7:21 am

Genesis 1:26 reads - Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

I believe this verse is refering to God being a Holy Trinity

He is but one Being or Deity, who reveals Himself to us as three distinct persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

The scripture talks about things like "Let Us make man" and "in Our image", this is commonly mistaken as 'God plural', meaning there is more than one God, however this would contradict the following verses of scripture:

2 Samuel 22:32 - For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?

and

Deuteronomy 4:35 - To you it was shown, that you might know that the LORD Himself is God; there is none other besides Him.

These verses provide us with indisputeble biblical evidence that God is who He says He is and there is no other God besides Him

The trinity doctrine is mentioned to us in the following verses:

John 1:1-5 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

Point 1 - The Word was from the begining
Point 2 - The Word was with God
Point 3 - The word was God

So we have the Word which was in the begining, with God, at the creation (as the word was with God from the beginning). And the Word was God

The folowing verse tells us more about the Word

John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me. 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him."

This verse tells us that Christ Jesus, the Massiah is indeed the Word "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us"

so thus far we can establish that Jesus was the word, jesus was with God from the beginning, and Jesus is infact God.

This is further backed up using the following verse

John 8:58 - Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM

And this can be cross referenced with the following verse:

Exodus 3:14 - And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

These two verses show us that Jesus is indeed God, by using the words "I AM" as God did when he sent Moses to the Children of Israel

The following verse shows us that Jesus is indeed the Son of the Father and thus establishes the first two persons of the Trinity:

Matthew 3:17 - And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

This happened after Jesus was baptized, and further establishes the trinity

Now the following verses further indicate that God is at least two persons (Father and Son)

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

This shows us that God is indeed The Father, and God is indeed The Son, whom we know as Jesus

So what about the Trinity?, well the following verses of scripture show us that God comes to us as three distinct persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit):

John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

In other translations it says "ask the Father", other verses which speak of the third person include:

John 15:26 - “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

And

John 14:26 - But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

This scripture shows us that the Helper is the Holy Spirit. Thus far you may be wanting to know when is the Holy Spirit coming. This is talked about in the following verse

John 16:7 - Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

The following verses show us that on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came down from heaven

Acts 2:2 - And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

And

Acts 2:4 - And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

So from the text, we have established that God IS one being, God IS three persons, these persons are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

We also can conclude that God has already sent His Holy Spirit to minister to us and help us to grow in the word of God from the scriptures above

All of this is my own work, nearly all of these verses come from the New King James Version (for reference purposes), if i used a different translation it was because of understanding issues with the verse.
I have tried to not conclude on anything based on previous assumptions and all of my conclusions are based on scripture
If you believe I have made false conclusions based on misread scripture, please feel free to point out my errors and say why they are errors so that i can adjust my interpretation of it.

Thanks

Chris
